pinterest fail

so yesterday my friend jess and i got together and spent the whole afternoon baking christmas cookies. we were ambitious. we picked out three recipes and planned on making all of them. like i said, ambitious! the one that we were most excited about was this recipe: pinwheel christmas cookies.

we had everything set and were following the directions to a T. how hard could they be?

well .. they showed us. about midway through the rolling of the two doughs together i realized that these might not turn out the way we had hoped. 

and sure enough .. they did not.

instead we had a pinterest fail at its finest.

they are totally edible .. just not very nice to look at.

the other two cookie recipes made up for it though.

more on those later in the week!

DIY ... can i?

i haven't ever really shown any pictures of my apartment here in costa rica because it is just so tiny....and dark. but once school gets out (in less than two months!) i want to devote some time to making this place a little more homey and a little more space efficient.

one thing that i definitely want to do is organize my jewelry! since i do not have a vanity i decided i want something to hang on my wall where i can put all of my necklaces and some bracelets.

i've been searching in pinterest (obviously) and this is what i've come up with

this first one is very simple and very me! if i could get those little nails in a stick somehow without breaking it, then i could definitely pull this off. 

i also found this idea, which is already done

this option is from a little shop called SwishProductions. like the first option, its pretty simple and the best part is, it comes already finished. you can even customize the board covering. can you tell i'm already leaning towards this option?

anyone else have any (easy) ideas for hanging up my jewelry??

what did we do before pinterest? it's probably been just about a year since i heard about pinterest which means it has also been about a year since i started reading blogs.

its kind of crazy to me to think that it's been a full year since i got involved in the blogging world. and i'm so happy i did! i love blogging and reading blogs. i also love pinterest.

sometimes i get in these moods, like nothing is going my way. i like to go on pinterest and just look at all of the pretty pictures. you know? so many of the pictures are just so pretty. and after looking and of course pinning! sometimes i feel a little bit better :)

so these are some of my recent pinterest pretties. don't they just make you smile?

i have had such a hankering for pancakes lately that every time i see a new picture of then on pinterest, i pin it. they look so delicious! seriously, how can you resist?

the first one: apple cider pancakes with cinnamon sugar topping

lemon poppy seed pancakes with berries

lemon ricotta pancakes with blueberry sauce (heaven?)

chocolate chip oatmeal pancakes

this is where i tell myself i need to get my domestic butt in gear and learn how to make all of these....we'll see when that happens.

but my dad used to make us pancakes every single saturday morning when my brother and i were little. it was my favorite thing! i just asked him to send me the recipe so that i can start slow and perfect the basic pancake before i move on to some more fancy ones.

i'll be sure to keep you guys updated on my pancake making!

this is a mashup

this post  is a mashup between what i am looking forward to about home and oh how pinteresting! wednesday. lately in pinterest there have been a ton of 4th of july goodies that i havent been able to keep my eyes off of. how cute are all of these!

red, white, and blue together is just so festive and not mention the foods that have these colors are so yummy. who can resist blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and whipped cream together? thats right, no one.

i'm really excited that i will be home for the 4th this year. not only is it a fun day to celebrate but it is a holiday so all of my friends won't be working! yay. i'm hoping to spend the day with my friends barbequing, poolside(?), and then some fireworks at night.

just a week away! anyone have any fun plans for their 4th?

the little things

i thought i would link up for the infamous "oh how pinteresting" link-up since i have yet to do so! even though it is only one pin, i thought it was super cute and i have been saving it to use for a little while.

this is how i feel most weeks, monday through wednesday haha. don't get me wrong i really enjoy my job, but lately i have just been feeling really tired.

lucky me, today at work i left with a smile on my face. 

i recently met an american girl who had been living here in costa rica for a while and long story short, today she had an interview at my school for a possible teaching position next year.

as part of her interview she sat in on one of my classes with my eighth graders to see what it was like.

after i told my students that she might be a teacher at the school next year and she was here to check it out, the immediate responses were some of the following: 

"wait .. teacher .. you're not coming back?"

"but she isn't taking your job, right teacher?"

they do love me! i couldnt help but smile a little bit at their concerned faces that this new girl might possibly replace me. 

at least i know they like me a little bit, no matter how many times i have to ask them to stop talking or how many times i have to remind them that they should be paying attention.

so that was the little thing that made me leave work feeling a little bit better about how i'm doing.
