LOVING: TINY HOUSES

via 1,2,3,4

A few weeks ago I read this article about tiny houses and was immediately interested in the phenomenon of living in a small space, with in turn, means living with less things. With the thought of moving back home into my bedroom at my parents' house, I have been thinking a lot about how I can redo, rearrange, or just change up my living space so that it is much much less cluttered and no longer full of stuff.

At this point I have been living abroad for 3 years. As I'm sure you are aware, when you move abroad, you can't exactly take all of your possessions with you. So I have had to learn how to make do with less things. At first, it was an adjustment. What do you mean I can't bring ALL of my shoes? Or, of course I need four different purses to go with different outfits! No. I've learned to cut back and I've learned to use what I have until it breaks or is no longer usable. I wouldn't quite yet, call myself a minimalist, but I am working towards it.

Of course, pinterest has been fueling my new interest of tiny spaces. I've been sifting through and searching for ideas on utilizing the space in my room better so that when I go back, I can have a cleaner, and like I said, less cluttered look. I can't help but also look at the beautiful tiny houses that are around and hope that one day I can have my own small house that feels big once I turn it onto a home.

Would you ever live in a tiny house?

How tiny are we talking?? The last apartment I lived in with my family was 900 square feet--there's nine people in my family, so I'm not sure we could have fit into a much smaller area. I have friends who live in a studio apartment and I do like the prospect of not having to clean so much...but I also really like hosting parties and our large (maybe 1800 sq. feet?) house is great for that!

I would 100% live in a tiny house! These are adorable! I love compact and cute things like this, I didn't even know it was a thing! Off to waste my evening on Pinterest...

I love these photos, especially the top-right house with the deck.

To be honest, I prefer big houses. I like to stay at home and I like to have wide space to walk around. By the way, you're so right about not being able to take all your possessions when you go abroad! Bu then you buy new stuff, and they pile up eventually!

I've thought of living in one of those super tiny houses before!! They look so cute and I think it SOUNDS so ideal. But realistically, I am a homebody and so I think I would enjoy more space. I think the big thing is finding the balance -- what's enough space to not feel confined, but also to not fill up your home with a bunch of stuff you never use? I definitely have been seeing themes of being a minimalist show up in my life, or at least, loving what I have before I add more to it, but ha, this area could use a lot of work. But at least you've gotten a lot of practice with it having lived abroad for three years now!
